Is $10,000 to replace a dedicated 2-ton HVAC system for the master bedroom a fair price?
Project Details
I moved into my 1.5-story home in North Texas in 2021. The house has three AC units: one for the upstairs loft (rarely used), one for the main floor (replaced in 2018), and a dedicated unit for the master bedroom. The master bedroom unit, which is original from 2004, has a refrigerant leak and is failing. While waiting for the scheduled installation of the new system, a window unit was set up, and it's doing a great job keeping the room cool with seemingly minimal energy cost difference. I'm questioning whether it's worth spending $10K on a full system when a much cheaper window unit seems sufficient. A potential downside of not having the full system is that it won't cool the attached bathroom and closet. I'm also unsure why the master bedroom needs its own dedicated system, as it was built that way.
