Is $2,200 to replace a Trane XR AC compressor a fair price?

My 3-year-old Trane XR (4TTR4030L1000BA) AC unit stopped blowing cold air but was still running, and the breaker never tripped. After a tech visit where a spark came from the capacitor during testing, the AC breaker now trips instantly when the unit tries to start, and the tech diagnosed a bad compressor. I'm questioning if the compressor was already failing or if the spark/testing mistake caused it, and if the $2,200 labor cost is reasonable.
