Is $5,000 to replace evaporator coil due to damage a fair price?
Project Details
I have a Coleman 3-ton AC unit that was installed in 2021. I just purchased the home in April of this year. The unit has a problem where tubes rubbed together, causing a hole in an aluminum tube, which is not repairable. The evaporator coil needs to be replaced, but it's on back order until November 2025. The unit is under warranty, but it's not transferable to me as I'm not the original owner. I had two AC techs look at it, and they both suggested a whole new unit. One tech offered to try and seal the aluminum coil until the parts are available in November, as it's currently June and hot temperatures are upon us. I'm trying to decide whether to wait for the part and spend the $5,000 estimate or just go for a new unit.
