Is $8,300 to clean attic and add blown-in insulation to R44 depth with baffle eve vents a fair price?
Project Details
I'm in the process of having my attic cleaned and getting new insulation. I don't know what I'm doing and I'm overwhelmed with so much information out there despite me trying to read as much as possible. My house was built in 1935, and I've been living here for 5 years. It's in Solano county, CA, which I believe is climate zone 3. The attic design and insulation probably hasn't been changed in a very long time, and I don't have a lot up there. My mechanicals, ducts, etc., are all in the basement, so there's nothing in the attic. I'm trying to decide if I should go the spray foam insulation route. I'm also wondering if the higher R-value really makes a difference between blown-in and spray foam, and if I'm being overcharged. I've tried to do my due diligence but I have no reliable person to ask in my immediate circle. I know I could perhaps do certain things myself, but I have injuries that limit my mobility, and honestly, I don't know what I'm doing and worry about doing more damage than good. I think having storage in the attic would be nice to have. I'm also curious about any benefits of closed-cell versus open-cell spray foam, and how the R-values of spray foam compare to blown-in insulation.
