Is $30,000 to refresh kitchen with new cabinets, island, appliances, and countertops a fair price?
Project Details
My wife and I are first-time homeowners. Our home is thirty years old, and the kitchen needs a refresh. We love to cook, and I am a professional chef, so we prioritize functionality. We love the current layout and only want some adjustments. Our overall budget for this update is under $45,000. We are located in Central Oregon, outside any major cities, which has limited our options, so we are buying direct for some components. We initially considered an appliance garage but it put us over budget. We decided against floating shelves to maintain natural light and avoid boxing in the space, and also due to cleaning concerns. We are open to advice on the hood's CFM rating and are still shopping for backsplash options, considering both quartz for ease of cleaning and tile for visual interest. We are also considering swapping the fridge and oven locations based on feedback. The existing kitchen has dinged, peeling, and chipped cabinets, water damage under the sink, chipping Formica countertops, and a tiny, falling-apart island. The current appliances also need replacement.

A water-damaged lower cabinet under the sink will be replaced. Existing Formica countertops, which are chipping, and a small, deteriorating Home Depot island will be removed.
