Is $500 to sand and seal existing oak kitchen countertops a fair price?
Project Details
I've just moved into a new home. The solid oak kitchen countertops are sticky, which I'm told is due to poor maintenance. I'm considering sanding and sealing them, but I'm very concerned about the ongoing maintenance, particularly around the sink. The internet suggests a lot of oiling, waxing, and immediate drying of any spills, even water, which seems like it would be a constant task. We moved in only 5 days ago, and the previous owners left Danish Oil and Beeswax, which seems to have created the sticky film. I'm trying to understand exactly what maintenance will be needed and if I'll have to wipe and dry every spill immediately. I'm happy to pay a professional to do the initial work correctly, but I want to know if I'll face continuous maintenance issues and what products to use for cleaning.
