Is $6,000 to install carbon fiber straps and fill cracks on sections of bowing basement walls a fair price?
Project Details
I am a new first-time homeowner dealing with two bowing basement walls in a finished basement, with no current water intrusion. One wall is bowed 1.5 inches, and the other is 1 inch, both having multiple horizontal cracks. The 1.5-inch bow is definitely due to poor drainage, which I am actively working on fixing, while the other wall is against a driveway with a good grade. I am actively monitoring the walls by measuring weekly to determine movement and am saving money to solve this issue. Everyone I've consulted has said it's impossible to know if the situation will worsen, though it appears to have been present for some time. I am very handy and have found DIY carbon fiber strap products online, but my wife and I believe having a professional company provide their stamp would look better for future buyers, despite the fact I could do both walls for less than $1,000. I find the carbon fiber option attractive because the basement is finished, allowing us to repaint over it, and it's cheaper. However, I really want peace of mind, as this new house has caused a lot of anxiety and stress.
