Is $15,000 to paint the whole house with spot carpentry repairs a fair price?
Project Details
I live in a 1920 home in Seattle, Washington. The paint on my house is showing its age, particularly on the west-facing side which gets a lot of sun, leading to peeling paint. Upon closer inspection, I've found a couple of sections where the siding is a bit loose, though I haven't found any spongy or rotten areas. My primary concern is preserving the structural integrity of the house, with aesthetics being a minor consideration. I'm uncertain if I'll be in this house for 5 or 35 more years. The house has been solid with no signs of moisture intrusion in the 3+ years I've lived here. I'm trying to decide whether to proceed with spot repairs and painting now, or to bite the bullet and replace the siding on the problematic side, which is near my current budget limit. Given my budget and uncertainty about how long I'll stay, I'm leaning towards the quicker/cheaper fix for now, keeping the option for a more thorough siding repair open for the future.
