Is $4,500 to remove popcorn ceiling and apply smooth finish a fair price?
Project Details
I was initially surprised by the quote of $4,500 for popcorn ceiling removal and a smooth finish in my 680 sqft condo, as online sources suggested a lower cost, around $2,000-$2,500. I am new to homeownership and renovations, so I'm learning as I go and don't want to lowball anyone for what I now understand is a tough job. I've decided to proceed with this quote because the contractor specializes in this work, has solid reviews, and my options in my rural area are limited. I am on a tight timeline as my current lease is ending soon, and I need this done before other renovations can begin. The condo is currently unfurnished and unoccupied, and I just closed on it a few days ago. The existing carpet and other flooring will be ripped up before I move in. The popcorn ceiling is confirmed not to contain asbestos, and while the place is from the 70s, I don't believe the popcorn finish is original.
