Is $25,000 to re-pipe the sewer system in the crawlspace with ABS pipe a fair price?
Project Details
My old cast iron pipes are shot, and I need to re-pipe the sewer system in the crawlspace with ABS pipe. The plumbing company that came out was friendly and professional, but the $25,000 quote seems very high. I'm going to get multiple quotes to get a sanity check on the price. The general consensus seems to be that the price is indeed high. I'm considering doing the wall repairs myself or hiring a separate contractor for that part, as the re-piping alone is quoted at $22,300. I'm specifically looking to remove all cast iron and replace it with ABS, not just line the existing pipes. My house is from the 1950s, and the cast iron is original. The quote does not include the sewer pipe lateral, which has its own issues and would be a separate project. I understand there might be a premium for a high cost of living area like Orange County, but not a 2x or 3x premium. I've heard from others who got similar jobs done in OC for around $16,000, which is still significantly less than my quote. It seems I might have received a quote at the really high end of the spectrum.
