Is $6,000 to add gas line and install gas tankless water heater with recirculator a fair price?
Project Details
I am considering a tankless hot water heater, primarily for space saving in the laundry room, to fill a soaker tub with all hot water, and to enable a top-load washer. I have gas to the house, but it only supports central heat. My husband is comfortable with electric work but not gas lines. We are a two-person household in NWFL with two bathrooms, a laundry, and a kitchen with a dishwasher, planning for 1-2 children in the future. We rarely have overnight guests. I'm wondering if an electric tankless unit would be suitable or if it's better to wait for a gas option, given a gas quote was over $6k and out of budget. I'm also looking for DIY guidance for running a gas line. The current furnace is on the opposite side of the house from the laundry room. The $6k quote price itself isn't bad, but it's not in my current budget as I've had to hire out for some other projects and hoped to DIY the laundry.
