Is $1,900 to purchase a Hayward variable speed pump, filter, and sand for an above ground pool a fair price?
Project Details
I purchased a 15x30 (10,500 gallon) above ground pool during the end of year sale and plan to install it next Spring. I was going to wait to purchase the pump/filter until I could figure out what I need. I would like a variable speed pump. I didn't add on a pump to my pool purchase and bought the pool online. I wanted to do more research on the pump before purchasing it.

Install a Hayward variable speed pool pump
Quote for installing a Hayward Variable Speed Pump (VSP) for a 28,000-gallon pool. The existing pump is a 1hp single-speed unit. The pool builder claims the electrical, plumbing, and programming for a VSP are more complex than a single-speed pump. The homeowner notes that the pump itself costs $1400-$1500, implying a significant labor cost of over $2000 for the swap. The pool is a traditional chlorine pool with a sand filter, and it lacks a salt water generator (SWG), automation, or a timer, currently using a simple on/off switch.
