Is $55,000 to install an Aquamatic Hydralux automatic solid slat pool cover a fair price?
Project Details
I am doing a major pool remodel and want to add an automatic pool cover in the ground. My pool is L-shaped, which makes using usual covers with pulleys on the sides difficult. I was hoping for a cost around $30,000, but this quote is much higher, and there might be an additional $10,000 in reshaping work needed. My goal is to have something that maintains an ultra-modern look when open, keeps heat and chemicals in, and provides added safety (though not the primary goal). I live in Los Angeles and hope to keep the pool swimmable year-round. Energy is very expensive here, costing 40-55 cents per kWh, and there are efforts to ban gas. I'm wondering if buying more electric solar panels to run my AC in summer and a heat pump pool heater in winter might be a better option. My pool's L-shape has an angle, not a 90-degree corner, which complicates solutions like two covers. I'm already looking into a variable pump and changing to salt, and I'm now considering UV.
