Is $2,500 to replace a Pentair Quad DE 100 pool filter a fair price?
Project Details
My parents have a salt pool with a Pentair Quad DE 100 filter. The existing filter is about 14 years old and their pool maintenance person says it needs to be replaced. They are 76 and 81 years old, so they probably won be in the house for another 10 years. I live 15 minutes away from them and take care of my own pool, but I haven ever done plumbing. I am a competent DIY-er and was looking for advice on whether there's something that would fairly easily swap out. The maintenance person mentioned that more DE is getting into the pool than should and that troubleshooting would involve a service callout, which could make replacement cheaper. I later disassembled the filter and found the cartridges were in rough shape with gone bands, and there was a hole in the air bleed screen, which I believe was causing the DE leak. I ended up replacing the cartridges and o-rings myself for $500 in parts.
