Is $4,500 to remove chimney stack and perform roof/gutter work a fair price?
Project Details
I initially had roofers in to clean my roof, sort some gutterwork, and remove damaged lead flashing on the chimney. Following an inspection, they found structural problems with the chimney stack above the roof. The quote for removing the chimney stack down to inside the roof level jumped from an initial £680 to £4.5k. I felt stuck with them as they had started work and the chimney was unstable. I am concerned about the quality of the work, as the chimney stack inside isn't capped off and the felt has been torn where a ventilation tile was added and left hanging. I've already paid a £2k deposit and they are expecting the rest today. I am unsure if I am being ripped off and what I can do now, given I signed their invoice. This work is being carried out in England, in the South East about an hour outside of North London.
