Is $4,800 to replace flue pipe and install new chimney a fair price?
Project Details
I am a new homeowner and unfamiliar with the terminology. I recently bought this home in January. During a heavy rain, I noticed water dripping through the joints of the b-vent connector/tee of the oil furnace exhaust (flue pipe) in the basement. An HVAC tech suggested I contact chimney companies. The roof is new, and I have a warranty transferred from the previous owners, so I'm having the original installers check it, but I don't expect them to take responsibility for the flue leak. I'm trying to understand if the entire flue pipe needs replacement if the roof leak is fixed, how to check for corrosion/CO safety, and if the quotes are reasonable.
