Is $18,000 to install a 7.1kw solar system a fair price?

I really want to get some solar for my house, but I have a bunch of mature trees on my property. Based on satellite images, companies believe a 7 kW system can be installed on my roof. I have a 3900 sqft ranch with vaulted ceilings and 3 AC zones, so AC consumes a lot of energy, especially since my wife works from home and the main zone runs almost 24/7. My utility's night rates are very competitive at 7c/kwh, so I am okay without a battery. My home uses a gas furnace, water heaters, and a dryer, which consume a fair bit of energy, especially in the winter.
