Is $18,243 to install 7.83 kW solar panel system a fair price?
Project Details
I am trying to finalize my decision on going solar for my house in Los Angeles before incentives end. I am a LADWP customer and not on time-of-use billing, which means I receive solid net metering credits for power sent back to the grid. Most of my power use occurs at night, but without time-of-use rates, a battery doesn't offer significant financial savings. I already have a gas generator for essential backup power during outages, and I'm considering asking the installer about a transfer switch for it as a cheaper alternative to a battery. I am leaning towards going solar-only for now and waiting to see future developments in the solar industry and LADWP's policies, as I believe LA regulation moves slowly. While I would love whole-house backup, the high cost of batteries compared to their potential infrequent use makes me hesitant.
