Is $39,000 to install a 14KW solar system with 32 panels a fair price?

I currently pay approximately $600 per month for electricity, and a 10-year solar loan would be around $500 per month. I am cautious about proceeding and am looking for advice on others' solar experiences and what they wish they knew beforehand, as sales people are hard to believe. I won't be able to get the system installed by the end of the year, as all companies are booked up. My utility, ConEd, offers 1:1 net metering, and all my home systems (water heater, heat pump, etc.) are electric. I use about 17,000 kWh per year and am worried the system won't produce as much as these companies are projecting.
