Is $4,527 to level two rooms and install LVT flooring a fair price?
Project Details
We paid £4,527 for two rooms to be levelled and for LVT to be installed in our new home. As you can see from the photos, it has fallen considerably short of our expectations. Currently looking like we are going to court to recover the monies spent. It was glue down LVT. I filed a complaint, was told they’d come out, but only to glue down what was peeling — not level the floor. They said it was “Impossible to level the floor.” I measured areas of 40mm over one metre, while the expected tolerance was something like 0.7mm over two metres. I called the manufacturer and told them to stop supplying this store unless they want their product fitted like this. We wanted engineered wood, they were the ones that hard sold us onto LVT. I’d never even heard of it before. I don’t need level from edge-to-edge, but expected better than this. When I get the money back, we’ll be getting Oak. Lesson learned on LVT. Contact was made. Guy came out to inspect the subfloor. Making the floor level was stressed throughout as the primary reason for replacing the previous floor. We paid an additional £400-500 per room to level the subfloor. Was told the floor would be level. We were told LVT would be better than engineered wood which was initially our preference. Company did a pour and sanded it. I was working so couldn’t inspect whether they were checking level regularly etc. This is the state it was left in. There are high and low spots where there weren’t previously. I said you need to fix it to the standard agreed at the point of sale, they refused and said that levelling it would be impossible. We paid extra, £500 per room, for them to be levelled. The room is now less level than when they started. It was 5.2mm thick LVT. We paid the flooring company extra to level the floor. The floor was closer to level prior to their work. £4,500* ($6,000) which is on the more premium side where I am (South-West, England). We certainly didn’t cheap out. This included labour and materials. I don’t currently live in the United States.
