Is $24,000 to install two separate HVAC systems for a 2-story house a fair price?
Project Details
I am retrofitting a 1930 2 story house with central heat and air. It has been served by gravity flow heat through in-wall ducting and window unit air. I am wondering about the sizing of the systems, specifically why the 2nd floor system is larger than the 1st floor system, considering the stairwell. I am also seeking recommendations on whether to go with two separate zones (one for each floor) or a whole-house system augmented by a second system for the second floor during hot summers. I live in Oklahoma, which has a hot humid climate in the summer with warm to hot weather from April/May through October, including Indian Summer with warm days and cool nights. Winters are mild to cold, with at least one wave of frigid arctic temperatures each January or February.
