Is $1,748 to install additional attic insulation to R49 a fair price?
Project Details
I am seeking a sanity check on whether I need more attic insulation. I had a new roof installed in April of this year. For the past few winters, I've noticed large icicles forming at the edge of the roof line near the gutters, and I suspect ice dams are forming, especially in corners where baffles appear to be missing. My current insulation is about 10-12 inches deep. My heating and cooling bills are not particularly high (around $80 for gas heating and $80 for electrical A/C), and I maintain the house at 70F year-round. A new HVAC system was installed in 2019. I plan to contact the contractor to request insulation to R60 and to emphasize attention to the ice damming corners. I am also looking to take advantage of a tax credit.
