Is $4,000 to build and install a custom kitchen hood cover a fair price?

The plan was to get a custom hood cover from the place making our cabinets and getting a hood insert. However, the cabinet quote came in and that piece is around $4k. That does seem pretty high and one place where I could save money and just get a stainless steel wall mounted hood and call it a day. This is the kitchen I will live with for the rest of my life as we have no plans on moving. If I go with stainless, I don't want to regret it 10 years down the road b/c I do like the look of the custom hood. That being said, I don't hate the look of stainless and the price difference would obviously go a long way to cover other items in the kitchen. Our cabinets are going to be white and the hood was going to be white to match with a band at the bottom in white oak to match our island. I just saw them and think that's the route I'm going to take! Just confirming that my contractor can paint to match the cabinets and confirming sizes. I think we're going to do the same. Just heard about Hoodsly yesterday and found what I wanted. I really like the band at the bottom but I think you're right about it dating the kitchen.
