Is $9,000 to paint kitchen cabinets a desired color a fair price?

I had a house fire that destroyed about 300 square feet of my home, specifically the kitchen and living room. My public adjusters recommended a contractor. We agreed on an estimate that was approved by my insurance. A dispute arose when the contractor's father-in-law told me I was limited to four standard cabinet colors. I want beige/cream cabinets, which the main contractor then said would cost an extra $9k because painting them is 'laborious'. My kitchen is small, with about 13 feet of cabinets total. My insurance is paying out $134k for the kitchen and living room, which is about 250 square feet of damage, after an initial estimate of $250k. I refused to pay the extra $9k for painting. The contractor requested to cancel the contract. I agreed, asking for an invoice for the demolition work already completed so I could review it before signing his cancellation policy, which states I must pay the invoice amount upon signing. The contractor is refusing to send the invoice and is upset because he lost the larger contract. I am willing to have my insurance pay him for the completed demolition work, but I need the invoice first.
