Is $18,500 to replace roof and some rotten boards a fair price?
Project Details
I was quoted $18.5K for a roofing job. The company charged my insurance over $3,000 additionally for replacing at most 3 or 4 boards with small rotten spots. After the job, I found a lot of holes in my attic that weren’t there before, which the company admitted were caused by their safety ropes. I am trying to get advice on how to deal with this roofing company to make things right before giving them the rest of the money from insurance. I still owe them $1,100 from the insurance company, but I have already given them a bigger check for $5,700 and paid a $5,500 deductible. I am concerned about the quality of the work and if they tried to bill the insurance for things they didn’t do, like replacing flashing. I checked for leaks during a hard rain and didn’t find any, aside from some tiny splashes of water on the newly installed plastic ridge vent. I am also thinking about switching insurance companies, as my auto insurance with USAA has gone up for no reason. I feel like an idiot for not looking in the attic sooner. It doesn’t seem to be required to pull a permit here in Georgia for non-structural work like replacing shingles.
