I had a small hole in my roof from a tree branch. I decided not to go through insurance because the repair quotes were less than my deductible. I opted to install a skylight instead of just repairing the hole, as my north-facing bathroom was dim and cave-like. I handled the interior finishing work myself after the contractor completed the exterior.
