Is $1,200 to repair a section of my roof a fair price?

I just received a quote for $1200 to fix a section of my roof, and I believe it's too high, as I was expecting around $500. The repairmen approached me after working on my neighbor's house, informing me that I had lost some shingles. I'm considering if this is a repair I could do myself.
