Is $6,500 to add an Enphase system controller and IQ meter collar for solar backup a fair price?
Project Details
I currently have a grid-tied solar system with Enphase 5P batteries and a Combiner 5C box. I experience about one outage per year, both planned and unplanned, which can last several hours. Most of my home appliances are electric, including the dryer, stove, AC, and EVs. I am also considering switching my last gas water heater to electric. The primary concerns during an outage are losing fridge contents and not being able to take a shower if I switch to a heat pump water heater. My existing batteries are used for load shifting, and I need to add the system controller and meter collar specifically for backup functionality. So far, outages have lasted 6-7 hours at most, but I am unsure if longer outages might occur in the future.

This option includes a solar panel system with battery backup. It is forecast to produce 11,803 kWh, offsetting 89% of energy consumption. The system components are as follows: - Panels: 28 REC Alpha Pure-RX Series 460W - Inverters: 28 Enphase IQ8X - Battery: 3 Enphase IQ Battery 5P
Add a single Enphase 10C battery to an existing solar system
This quote is for the initial installation of a single Enphase 10C battery to an existing Enphase solar system. The work includes switching the PV from grid-tied to batteries and rerouting necessary components. The system is expected to manage automatic failover (PV -> batteries -> AC). Each additional Enphase 10C battery would cost $7,000. The initial installation cost (excluding the battery itself) is estimated at $18,000, covering labor and extra hardware.
